Earth Boys Are Easy: Content, Tropes, Kinks & Triggers

  • A skerry, secret soft boi (but only for his man) with splintering self-control vs. a very determined little space slut.

  • This same scene shows other aliens being treated as “pets” and involved in sexual acts where they may not be consenting (it is the culture our MCs are infiltrating—there is always consent between them).
  • **Rejection of a grown son by his homophobic, religious parents based on their beliefs of a judgmental heaven (mentioned in the past, not one of the MCs).**
  • Kink and other sexual experiences being explored in ways that could be deemed unsafe were the MCs human (but prior discussion is key with these two CONSENT KINGS).
  • A big alien idiot trying (and failing at times) to give proper care (and aftercare) to his human.
  • Sweary dialogue.
  • Naughty, medium-dark humor.
  • Parody references to Star Wars (eg. Micah’s safe word is Stormtrooper—with Ziggy’s revealed in the bonus epilogue—and sexy Stellarian armor that doesn’t at all look like the Mandalorian’s).
  • Unhinged (some might say excessive) inner thoughts.
  • Nerdy pet names used as both nicknames and honorifics.
  • Using religious phrases in an overtly sexual context (oh my god/Jesus Christ), along with the use of the words slut/brat/whore/etc in the bedroom (consensually and enthusiastically). 
  • The word bitch is also used, but as a compliment (eg. Bad Bitch Mercenary, which Ziggy—and Micah!—are).
  • Dick eating (like, for real for real).
  • The spice heats up quick, but the love confessions are glacially slowwww (feelings are skerry), so prepare for the uncontrollable urge to yeet your kindle/book and smack both idiots upside the head for how dense they’re being about their GLARINGLY OBVIOUS emotional connection.
  • Brief moments of miscommunication (this IS a C. Rochelle book), but nothing dire, as these two are too freakin’ soft for each other.
  • Little white lies that are more about self-protection or fear of negatively affecting the other person than meaning actual harm (and they never stay buried for long).
  • Majorly insensitive foot-in-mouth moment from our boy with no filter (the sincere apology comes quickly!).
  • An absolutely criminal level of angst and anguish toward the end (trust that the author was Going Through It right along with them).
  • Mention of sex workers in an otherworldly city (no judgment—they simply exist).
  • A moment of our boys being ‘accidentally’ propositioned as sex workers by another alien (and both briefly going along with it for… mercenary reasons).
  • Murderous ideation (from both of them, usually involving anyone messing with/looking at/breathing the same air as their mate) as well as casual ideations of consuming the object of one’s obsession.
  • Case in point: An offending alien hand being severed for touching a mate and spider aliens being torn apart from the inside (no details because ya author is a delicate snowflake).
  • An actual massacre in the name of love (only the aftermath shown and vaguely described).
  • Death by alcohol poisoning (not a main character).
  • Murky gray morality on the whole body snatching business (in the end, Ziggy is a symbiotic alien, so we all just need to deal with it).
  • A painfully distrustful little crab slowly—so slowly—coming out of his grumpy shell (Ziggy—but the character growth is delicious).
  • Daddy issues (not the fun kind) resulting in a strong aversion to reproduction/parenting (Ziggy… but there’s still a BIG attraction to breeding—for both of them).
  • Death of a parent (vaguely mentioned, in the past).
  • Abandonment, inadequacy, and self-worth issues from neglectful/absent parents (on both sides, but mostly Ziggy) and society/military regime (Ziggy).
  • A military regime rewriting history and gaslighting their own people and an identity crisis caused by discovering this betrayal.
  • Coming to terms with being on the wrong side of history (“When you know better, do better” –Maya Angelou).
  • Sullying of 80s babies’ E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial core memories thanks to drunk Micah (we get drunk Ziggy in the bonus epilogue).
  • A cutthroat, dubious moral code for supes that isn’t meant to be understood by normies. “It’s how the game is played.”

A Note on How Stellarians Identify (and are potentially misgendered):

Being an alien whose true form is a cluster of stars, Stellarians are nonbinary by nature. They do occasionally end up identifying as male or female, or a mix of both, over the course of their very long lives, but nonbinary with they/them pronouns is to be assumed until stated otherwise.

However, there are a few instances in this book where a side character is potentially misgendered due to their outward—vessel’s—appearance before it’s understood that there’s a Stellarian living inside. 

While this would be considered harmful behavior in our world, it’s a common situation for these symbiotic, body snatching aliens to find themselves in, and not one they particularly take issue with. Either way, please take care of yourself while reading if this situation would be triggering to you.

Body Dysmorphia Note:

While Ziggy identifies as he/him and prefers his male presenting Earthling form above all others, he doesn’t feel entirely comfortable in his own skin FOR REASONS that get revealed during the course of the story. While I do not truly believe what Ziggy is struggling with in Earth Boys is body dysmorphia (after discussing his situation with a few in the trans community), I would ask that you please take care of yourself while reading if you struggle with it.

Note on pet/Master Ownership Scene Involving a Black MC (with a potential SPOILER for the Not All Himbos Wear Capes storyline):

In the Villainous universe’s history, chattel slavery in the US didn’t exist as we know it. There is a sensitive parallel with how heroes were treated as indentured servants to politicians, regardless of skin color, but that has been abolished by the time Earth Boys occurs.

However, one of our MCs in Earth Boys, Micah, is Black, while the other, Ziggy, exists in a white presenting body when in his preferred Earthling form. 

While their dynamic is equal in their daily lives, there is a (consensual and discussed beforehand) scene where Ziggy (in an entirely different alien form) has Micah on a leash so they can blend in with a different alien culture for a mission. This “pet/Master” dynamic is seen as an actual ownership situation to the culture they are infiltrating, but our MCs see it as nothing more than a cover, with kinky honorifics during a (public and consensual) blowjob scene.  

Ziggy does have a moment of hesitation ahead of time—since he does NOT like treating Micah as less than—but Micah makes it clear he has no intention of missing out on the fun. There is also a brief moment of miscommunication afterward, where Ziggy fears Micah felt “forced” (not in a fun way) and references how his people were owned (meaning supes—and Micah quickly reassures him it is a non-issue).

Remember, these characters are viewing things through the gaze of their lived experience, based on a world where the aforementioned prejudices, biases, and indentured servitude only relate to the historical inequity between superheroes and villains.

As the author, I am well aware that in OUR shitty universe, Black people were enslaved and that the dynamic described above could be a trigger based on that. I did reach out to some of my BIPOC readers to weigh in as I crafted this TW so that readers can make informed decisions with their mental health in mind.

Villains in Space is the first (of many…) Villainous Things spin-off series and feature the adventures of Micah Salah (superhero) and Ziggy Andromeda (morally gray alien).

The first book – Earth Boys Are Easy – is an idiots-in-love, MM romance tale (where the spice heats up quick but the eMOtioNs are glacially slow), set in space, with only one sleeping pod, and an entire skinsuit closet full of alien accessories. While each book in this trilogy follows the same couple (who find their HFN/HEA in book 1!), our one MC (Ziggy) is the type of alien who can inhabit other forms, so the spice will be varied and full of fun accessories (much to Micah’s satisfaction).Things are gonna get weird, but if you’re here for it, dock yourself to my spice-station and hang on for the ride!

Chronologically, Earth Boys occurs after Enter the Multi-Vers (Villainous Things, Book 4) and before Rabble: End Game (VT, 5), so you will get more backstory if you read Villainous first. However, you can start your adventure here before orbiting back to the series that started it all.
